ABOUT STUMBLEBUM

"It's not where you are, but your reason for being there"

Back in 2015, I was still living in New York City. Being in such a large and diverse city I was never short of exposure to new and interesting cuisines and experiences. One of the most memorable experiences that caught my attention was an evening lecture on Beer and Cheese at the Museum of Food and Drink Laboratory. It would be my first introduction to the eccentric and renowned brewer Garret Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery, who would over the evening teach me why beer and cheese were definitely better than wine and cheese (it’s the protein content and hop acidity).

What I didn’t realize was that my interest in this topic would become an obsession. This obsession led me to find a New York restaurant that was as dedicated to these pairings as I am. That place was Astoria Bier and Cheese, and not only did it become the place where I refined my obsession, but it was also where I took my wife on our first date. These were life-changing events. She would eventually throw her support behind packing up and moving to my home state of Michigan and starting Stumblebum Beer Co.: A celebration of beer, meat, and cheese that I look forward to sharing with all who stumble through my door.

Meet Eli

In 2015, while in New York City, I attended a captivating lecture on Beer and Cheese at the Museum of Food and Drink Laboratory, led by renowned brewer Garret Oliver. This sparked an obsession that led me to Astoria Bier and Cheese, where I had my first date with my now-wife. This momentous occasion inspired us to start Stumblebum Beer Co. in Michigan, a celebration of beer, meat, and cheese. We're excited to share our passion with all who visit.

Meet Chris

I’ve spent the decade as the neighborhood brewer; making tasty beers for the fabulous folks of Ferndale and most recently, Corktown in Detroit. I’m beyond stoked to share my love of lagers and Michigan grown hops with the people of Troy. When not in the Brewery you can also find me exploring the wilderness, kayaking one of our many rivers and hopping around the local breweries and wineries Michigan has to offer. I am excited to team up with Stumblebum Beer Co and share some amazing beers and food with you all very soon.
